As the heat peaks and summer stretches long,we welcome Dashu, or Major Heat, the 12th of the 24 Solar Terms.
The Tang poet Gao Pian wrote: "Beneath thick green trees, summer days linger long; Pavilions reflect in the pond clear and calm. A light breeze stirs like a crystal curtain swaying, Rose vines fill the whole yard with sweet fragrance." These lines paint a gentle picture of midsummer.
To find balance amidst the sweltering heat, Chinese folk traditions offer two simple rituals: drying Fu Ginger to warm and restore the body, and sipping Fu Tea, a cooling herbal brew for the dog days.May cool breezes stay by your side, may you find comfort and refreshment, live gently through the hot summer, and await the arrival of autumn.
